Kigali also known as the land of a thousand hills is Rwanda’s capital and home to a beautiful and hospitable people rich in culture and history. The weather is generally cold and can be described as a tropical savanna climate typically with a pronounced dry season.
Kigali houses several memorials, museums, and centers dedicated to the Rwandan Genocide, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. Other museums include the National Museum of Rwanda, Kandt House Museum of Natural History and the Presidential Palace Museum that takes its visitors through the secret passage ways that were used during the genocide. Music and dance are an integral part of Rwandan ceremonies, festivals, social gatherings and storytelling so be sure to catch the cow dance performed by a famous dance group in Rwanda called the National Ballet. Volcano National Park is another favorite for tourists in Rwanda known for being a safe haven for mountain gorillas, there are eight habituated groups open to tourists, allowing for a total of 64 permits per day. Tourists spend an hour with the gorillas.
